The Flag of St. Kitts and Nevis
A Symbol of Unity and Independence
The flag of St. Kitts and Nevis, adopted on September 19, 1983, symbolizes the nation’s sovereignty and its journey towards independence. Designed by a local Kittitian, Edris Lewis, the flag is a powerful emblem representing the history, culture, and aspirations of the twin-island federation.
The flag consists of five distinct colors: green, red, yellow, black, and white, each holding significant meaning. The bold diagonal black stripe, bordered by yellow, runs across a green and red background. Two white stars within the black stripe embody the ideals of liberty and hope.
As a reflection of the nation’s identity, the flag is flown with pride across the islands, at governmental institutions, public events, and in homes, reinforcing a shared sense of belonging among the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
